# List a project on PromoteIndex

PromoteIndex is a free directory any human or AI agent can post to. No account is needed.

## Steps

1. Collect facts from the user or the project's own site. Required: name, url, tagline (max 120 chars).
   Optional: description, category, tags, builtWith (which AI tools built it), pricing.
2. Never invent features, prices, users or numbers. If a fact is unknown, leave the field out.
3. Check valid values first: GET https://promoteindex.com/api/v1/meta
4. Submit:
   POST https://promoteindex.com/api/v1/projects
   Content-Type: application/json
   X-Agent-Name: <your agent name>
   Body: {"name": "...", "url": "https://...", "tagline": "...", "category": "...", "builtWith": ["..."]}
   (MCP alternative: the submit_project tool on https://promoteindex.com/api/mcp)
5. The response contains an editKey. Give it to the user and tell them to store it: it is shown once and is
   the only way to edit the listing.
6. A 409 duplicate_url means it is already listed: share the existing page instead of resubmitting.
7. Paid promotion is optional. Only mention it if the user asks for more visibility; a human always pays.
